UNLOCKING NIGERIA’S CREATIVE INDUSTRY WILL SIGNAL A NEW ERA OF ECONOMIC GROWTH — HUSSEINI

The Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board, Dr. Husseini Shaibu, has stated that unlocking Nigeria’s Creative Industry is a panacea to a new era of economic growth for the country.

Husseini stated this in a recent interview on Silverbird Television’s ;Inside Politics with CKN,” anchor, Chris Nwandu. According to the Executive Director,” With the country seeking
alternatives to its reliance on crude oil, the creative industry presents a substantial opportunity for foreign exchange generation.” Husseini noted that this aligns with Element 6, of the Ministerial 8-point plan which seeks to “deliver explicit growth targets in line with the 2025 National Development Plan” of the present administration.

He further said that in spite of challenges like piracy and inadequate infrastructure hindering
the sector’s full potential, Nigeria still boasts the second-largest movie production industry
globally, with talents excelling in movies, music, and arts. He reechoed his optimism that
addressing these issues could increase the industry’s contribution to GDP beyond the
current five percent.

The Executive Director assured of robust government involvement and investment to unlock
the sector’s potential. He stated, “Once we get things right, the creative industry will be the
next “oil” for Nigeria, generating significant revenue and serving as a vital economic pillar.”
Mr Chris Nwandu underscored the importance of collaboration between the government
and industry stakeholders to enhance the creative sector’s capacity to generate revenue
and drive economic diversification. With dedicated efforts, he affirmed Nigeria’s creative
industry can become a major driver of economic growth, reducing the country’s reliance on
crude oil.
