BREAKING! THREE YEARS AFTER DEATH: CROSS RIVER GOVT, FAMILY PICK NOVEMBER 30 TO BURY FORMER SENATE PRESIDENT, JOSEPH WAYAS

Almost three years since his death, former Senate president, Chief Joseph Wayas GCON, will be laid to rest in Cross River State on November 30, 2024.

Although the breakdown of the funeral arrangements have not been released, thebldengr.com gathered on Thursday that the burial date has been sanctioned by the family and the state Government with the approval of the Federal Government.

The former Senate President died in the United Kingdom, in late 2021 while undergoing medical care.

However, due to unavoidable complications, his body remained in the UK until recently, when Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Cross River State and a non-governmental organization, ‘Who is Who in Northern Cross River State Forum’ alongside other individuals, repatriated his remains to Nigeria.

Born in Obanliku, Cross River State in 1941, Dr. Wayas was a beacon of leadership and a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey. He served as Senate President from 1979 to 1983 during the Second Republic, distinguishing himself through his dedication to democratic ideals and unity in governance.
