Anthony Wallace Adekunle Benson, first son of legendary Nigerian musician, Bobby Benson, is dead.
A statement signed by Maxwell Bobby-Benson, on behalf of the family said the sad event occurred in the evening of the 13th of November in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after a brief illness.
The late Tony Benson was an accomplished musician in his own right. He was also a multi instrumentalist who played drums, keyboards, percussions among others. He also led his own band for several years.
His father, the late Bobby Benson was one Nigeria’s Godfathers of highlife. He gave highlife music so much relevance in Nigeria and had many great musicians such as Victor Olaiya, Roy Chicago, Billy Friday, Zeal Onyia, Eddy Okonta, Baby Face Paul and Rex Lawson among others under his wings in the early stages of their careers.
