Finally, the Cross River State government has released a detailed program of how their prominent son and former Senate President, Dr. Joseph Wayas will be buried.
According to a program personally signed by the Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the funeral rites of the late Senate President who died three years ago in the United Kingdom, will commence with a Service of Songs on Saturday November 24, 2024 at the Assemblies of God church, Ahmadu Bello Way, Garki, Abuja by 4pm.
The program released by the Secretary of the Burial Committee, Dr. Dorncklaimz Enamhe, said the body of the late elder statesman will leave the mortuary on Thursday November 28, 2024 enroute the National Assembly where it is expected for a valedictory session at the Senate, after a brief stop at the residence of the departed Senate President on Plot 1843 Deng Xiaoping street, Asokoro extension, Asokoro.
That same afternoon, the body will be flown to Cross River State and will be received at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar and moved to the U.J. Esuene Stadium for Lying-in-State. This will be followed immediately by a Night of Tributes at the same venue.
On Friday, the body will be moved to the late Senate President’s compound at Sankwala, Obanliku Local Government Area by 12 noon. Later, a vigil will be held all night.
The remains of the former Senate President will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 30, 2024 after traditional rights at his Sankwala Obanliku compound.
