A coalition of approved guilds and associations addressed as Nollywood Guild Chairmen (NOGUC) in Delta State, Nigeria, has announced the coming into effect of its set body of rules for all industry practitioners operating in the state.
Known as the NOLLYGUIDE, the new bye-law document was devised as a consensual and legitimate tool with which to combat the exploitation of practitioners and corruption in the Nollywood industry within Delta State.
A statement released to the press by the Moderator of the event and coordinating Chairman Rapid Response Committee of the coalition, Comrade Chuma Mmeka, states that: “the official flag-off ceremony for the Bye-law commencement and inauguration of a joint taskforce was done by the indefatigable Chairman of NOGUC, Chief Mac Collins Chidebe (Mr. China) leading other sterling guild Chairmen at the occasion.”
Mmeka who represents Association of Movie Practitioners (AMPrac) in the coalition also informed through the statement that the coalition’s Public Relations Officer, Tonia Obieze, representing Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria (SWGN) is to serve as supervising Chairman for the Joint Taskforce, in acting capacity.
This correspondent witnessed the event at the Delta State Squash Club Asaba, on Monday, December 16th, 2024 from 10am to 12noon, and notes a large turn-up of industry practitioners and seasoned professionals from the various film production fields.
In his opening remarks at the occasion, Mr. China who represents Association of South East Movie Artistes (ASEMA) in the coalition, reiterated the importance of the Bye-law provisions.
He explained that the document took the commissioned (8) eight months to develop to ensure a thorough and widely acceptable job was done.
In his major role at the event, Secretary of the coalition and representative of Nollywood Association of Camera and Equipment Owners (NACO), Engr. David Akumah (Mr. Soda) reeled out the new rules and regulations to an excited congress, who also adopted same.
Among several dignitaries present and on hand to handle various segments of the exercise, are celebrated film directors and actors, Ugezu J. Ugezu and Sir Obi Okoli.
Others include the National President of Production Managers Guild of Nigeria (PMGN), Mr. Montelo, the national Taskforce Chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Prince Kevin Uvo, Chairman of the NOGUC Disciplinary Committee, Chief Adim Williams and Arc. Barr. James Akporero the committee’s Secretary.
The Nollywood Guild Chairmen (NOGUC) coalition is made up of (15) fifteen umbrella organizations representing individuals operating as professional actors and filmmakers in all facets of the industry including: Active Movie Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (AMPMAN), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Practitioners (AMPrac), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Nigeria Movie Directors (ANMD), Association of South East Movie Artistes (ASEMA), Cinematographers Society of Nigeria (CSN), Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Film/Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN), Guild of Film Art Design Practitioners (GOFAP), Nollywood Association of Camera and Equipment Owners (NACO), Production Managers Guild of Nigeria (PMGN), Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria (SWGN), and Script Supervisors Guild of Nigeria (SSGN).
The successful programme was organized on behalf of NOGUC by the coalition’s Events and Welfare Committee overseen by a supervisory Chairman, Comrd. Ajemba Stanley Ontop representing CDGN, leading top members including Stanley Ugochinyere representing PMGN, and Felicity Eziuzor representing SSGN.
