GENERAL DIRIYAI CELEBRATES AT 80

By Ndutimi Alaibe

Port Harcourt City stood still on Saturday December 28, for the celebration of the 80th birthday of Brigadier General Stanley Womotimi Diriyai (Rtd.), Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Malawi.

The Event Centre was packed with an impressive array of dignitaries, including retired and serving military officers, academics, and prominent political figures. Among the distinguished guests were the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri; the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu; Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (Rtd.); former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Opara; former Bayelsa State Deputy Governor; former Minister, Dr. Abiye Sekibo; and member of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, among others.

High point of the event was the presentation of the biography of the celebrant entitled, The Man: Stanley Womotimi Diriyai, A Portrait of Principle and Integrity, written by Sam Akpe.

The highly recommended book was reviewed by a university don, Dr George Ikiomoton. As one of the adopted sons of the celebrant, I had the honour of unveiling the book while Governor Diri made the presentation.

Here’s wishing the esteemed retired General a very happy 80th birthday and continued good health and happiness.
