NIGERIA, INDIA SETTLE FOR CINEMATIC ALLIANCE; HISTORIC CO-PRODUCTION AGREEMENT UNDERWAY

Discussions aimed at ensuring that cinematic relations between Nigeria and India are emplaced through a co-production agreement have been held.

The co-production agreement, when finally signed, will enable both countries partner, as well as provide the desired environment for the engagement in film co-production activities, programmes and projects by filmmakers of both nations.

The discussions which took place at the European Film Market (EFM), Gropius Bau of the 75th edition of Berlinale International Film Festival Berlin, was between Dr. Ali Nuhu, Managing Director, Nigerian Film Corporation, and his Indian counterpart, Mr. Ramkumar Vijayan, the Assistant Vice President, India Cine, Federation Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India.

The CEO’s engagement focused on how to fast track the needed processes and have the co-production agreement between Nigeria and India signed as soon as possible. An Indian delegation, Mr. Ramkumar Vijayan said, is planning a working trip to Nigeria.

Berlinale Film Festival, provided the ideal platform for this pivotal dialogue given the attendance it attracts.

Furthermore, both leaders recognized the role of Berlinale film festival in fostering cross-border partnerships.

According to Dr. Nuhu, “Berlinale is more than a celebration of cinema—it is a catalyst for unity. Nigeria and India, titans of storytelling, recognize the power of film to transcend borders”. This co-production pact will unlock shared creativity, economic growth, and cultural empathy, he further said.

Mr. Ramkumar Vijayan, echoed this sentiment as well, adding, “India’s film industry thrives on diversity and innovation. Partnering with Nigeria—a nation with a vibrant cinematic voice—will amplify our global impact”. Together, we can redefine narratives and empower filmmakers to craft stories that resonate worldwide, Vijayan further averred.

As the Berlinale celebrates 75 years of cinematic excellence, Nigeria and India’s partnership stands as a testament to the festival’s enduring mission: uniting the world through film.
