REPRESENT 2025 BUDGET WITHIN 48 HOURS–RIVERS ASSEMBLY TELLS GOV. FUBARA

The political tension in Rivers State has taken a different dimension as the State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Sim Fubara to present the 2025 budget.

The directive was given during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, with lawmakers insisting on timely submission of the budget for legislative scrutiny and approval.

This is coming after the Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Federal Government to stop financial allocation to Rivers State until Fubara retraces his steps and presents the budget to the pro-Wike lawmakers, led by Martins Amaewhule.

The apex court judgment put the balance of power in the hands of Wike and the lawmakers in the state’s political crisis, which started in October 2023.

Security operatives, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, took over the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters, earlier today.

A strong detachment of armed security personnel was seen stationed at strategic points around the Assembly Quarters on Monday morning.
