Team Delta’s quest to become the winner of the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival taking place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom after claiming 32 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze medal to sit atop the medals table.
Reports from Uyo on Sunday indicate that neighbour’s, Bayelsa State is closely behind the perennial National Sports Festival champions, with 29 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze medals with Team Edo in third place picking 10 gold, 25 silver and 20 bronze medals followed by Team Rivers which garnered 10 gold, 7 silver and 14 bronze medals.
Team Ondo is in fifth place after collecting 4 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals with hosts Akwa Ibom in sixth position after gathering 4 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medals followed by Team Imo with 3 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze medals just as Team Cross River has 3 gold, 4 silver and 11 bronze and Team Ania has 3 gold, 4 silver and 7 bRonze respectively.
Activities at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo have attracted a large crowd of people who throng the venue to give massive support to their favourite teams.
Team Delta which has won more laurels at the National Sports Festival and the National Youth Games, are favorite to clinch medals haul at the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival.
Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori is hopeful that his first tenure in office would follow in the trajectory already paid by his predecessors in office.
