Chairman of Nigeria Film Festival Association and founder/CEO of Coal City Film Festival, Mr. Uchenna Agbo on Sunday June 15, 2025, emerged the president-elect of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN.
Uchenna Agbo beat Teco Benson 123 to 103 votes at the election conducted in seven zones of the association.
Chairman of DGN Electoral Committee, DGNEC, Mrs. Patience Oghre-Imobhio announced Uchenna as winner of the election some minutes to 8pm at the Surulere headquarters of the guild where members of the Lagos zone cast their votes.
Uchenna Agbo who will be sworn-in at a later date, will succeed Dr. Victor Okhai who has led the guild for two terms since 2021. He will reign as the 9th leader of the association since it was founded in 1999.
Meanwhile, new comer guild politician Mrs. Grace Edwin-Okon beat incumbent Mr. Daniel Chukwueze to emerge the National Vice President. She becomes the first woman to occupy that position in the guild’s history.
Perekeme Odon a former PRO of the association, easily beat Prof. Samuel Ogunbiyi to retain his position as the National Secretary. His colleague Mr. Ofia Mbaka was also returned as Asst. National Secretary after he ran unopposed for the job.
Former chairman of Abuja chapter, Mr. Emmanuel Tagbo Eyaba floored his opponent Mr. Jeremiah Onoge to win the position of National PRO. Onoge was running for a new term as PRO.
Former treasurer Osita Okolie was elected from “Team Teco Benson”. He defeated Barr. Chibuzor Obiajunwa to clinch the National Financial Secretary job. Also elected from “Team Teco “, was Mr. John Paul Nwanganga who returned unopposed aa the national Welfare Service Director.
Prince Cyril Udubrakpor trounced wave making filmmaker, Mazi Dickson Iroegbu to emerge the National Chief Whip (Provost), while Mr. Ebuka Onuma defeated Prince Jude Timothy Titus to become the national Treasurer.
