In a powerful move to tackle the silent health crisis affecting millions of Nigerian men, veteran journalist and publisher of Best of Nigeria magazine and Nigeria360.com.ng, Al Humphrey Onyanabo, has announced a strategic partnership with The Charly Boy Foundation to launch a new weekly column titled “Manhood Matters.”
The column, which debutes on July 15, 2025, will run weekly across multiple platforms and focus on the myths, realities, causes, cures, and management of prostate health challenges in men, especially within the Nigerian context. It aims to educate, inspire, and encourage early detection, proper treatment, and open dialogue on a subject too often buried in silence and shame.
The collaboration comes at a crucial time as rising cases of prostate issues—ranging from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to prostate cancer—continue to affect Nigerian men, many of whom suffer in silence due to cultural stigma and lack of access to timely medical advice.
“Prostate is real. Our men are suffering silently but help is on the way,” said Doris Udensi, CEO of The Charly Boy Foundation. “For over three years, the Foundation has been at the forefront of bringing enlightenment, providing counselling, and offering financial assistance to men struggling with prostate conditions. With ‘Manhood Matters,’ we are expanding that mission into every home, every community, and every conversation. We are presently seeking community based organisations to partner with us so we make move mobile testing centres to the hinderlands to test our men free of charge”.
Known for his fearless journalism, cultural advocacy, and commitment to public health causes, Al Humphrey Onyanabo is bringing his pen and platform to amplify the message.
“I’m proud to be working with The Charly Boy Foundation and the maestro himself, Charles Oputa, on this bold, life-saving initiative,” Onyanabo said. “Manhood Matters is more than a column; it’s a movement to restore men’s health, dignity, and longevity. We will tell the truth, break the taboos, and offer practical guidance. At the end of the first cycle, the column will be compiled into a small handbook on prostate health to support the amazing work of the Foundation.”
Each weekly edition will feature relatable stories, expert advice, health tips, survivor testimonials, and emotional encouragement for men and families navigating prostate-related challenges. It will also highlight free screening programs, counselling resources, and awareness campaigns powered by the Foundation.
