Nigeria’s ex-international football player and member of the 1980 African Cup of Nations winning team, and respected coach, Mr. Kadiri Ikhana, MON, is lying critically ill at a hospital in Auchi, Edo State.
In a social media post he titled, “Another Eagle on death throes!”, his former teammate Dr. Segun Odegbami appealed to the government of Edo State, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and kindhearted Nigerians to intervene and come to the aid of the former Enyimba FC and Kano Pillars coach.
According to Odegbami, Coach Ikhana has been referred and transferred to Irrua Specialist Teaching hospital, Edo State, for more intensive investigation and for immediate blood transfusion in order to save his life.
Odegbami also disclosed that Hon. Austin Braimoh, immediate past Chairman, South-South Police Service Commission, not only brought Kadiri’s situation to his attention but has been the one picking the ailing Coach’s bills.
Ikhana, a member of Bendel Insurance FC that dominated domestic Nigerian football at the end of the 1970s, is perhaps the most successful coach in domestic football history in Nigeria.
