THE PDP RESET BEGINS NOW AS ATIKU RESIGNS–FIX PDP GROUP

We welcome the recent exit of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the People’s Democracy Party (PDP). While we acknowledge his past political contributions, his persistent pursuit of personal ambition has for too long stood in the way of unity, growth, and generational inclusion within the party. A statement by Abubakar Muktar of Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria Katsina State.

From 2015 when he joined forces against former President Goodluck Jonathan to 2023, when he disregarded the party’s zoning principle, Atiku’s actions have consistently undermined internal cohesion and weakened the PDP’s credibility as a party of fairness and justice.

What a shame both presidential and vice presidential candidates in 2023 have left. Even as a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has never truly played a leadership role in building the PDP. On the contrary, his actions have contributed significantly to the party’s recent implosion.

Now that he has formally stepped aside, we believe the PDP has a real opportunity to rebuild from within. We call on young Nigerians, especially loyal PDP members across the country, to step forward, take ownership of the party, and begin the urgent work of repositioning it as a truly national platform driven by ideas, not ego.

We also commend the PDP governors who distanced themselves from Atiku’s recent coalition. Their refusal to support yet another self-serving alliance reflects their commitment to the party’s future, not personal political gain.

Let it be clear: the PDP belongs to the people not to any individual. If we are serious about building a better Nigeria, we must begin by fixing the PDP.
