It was three solid days of honor as the Police Service Commission, PSC, and the Nigerian Police Force hierarchy paid their tributes as the immediate former Chairman of the Police Service Commission and retired Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase, commenced his final journey to mother earth.
The tribute events began on Wednesday September, 24th 2025, with a day of tributes held at the Police Resource Centre Jabi Abuja hosted by the Police Service Commission.
The events continued on Friday, September 26th, 2025, with a requiem mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama Abuja and lying in State at his Abuja residence in Maitama on Saturday September 27th.
After the lying in state, the Nigeria Police led by the Inspector General of Police gave him a farewell honor as his remains were prepared and airlifted to Edo State for the continuation of the burial rites.
At the Wednesday event, the Police Service Commission named its Chairman’s Hall at the 6th floor of its Corporate headquarters, as Solomon Arase Hall in honour of it’s late Chairman.
Speaking at the day of tributes, the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd. represented by the Director, Human Resource Management Aminu Malumfashi, said his predecessor was not only a Police Officer of repute, a Scholar and a reformer, he was a gentleman of rare courage and intellect.
The events of Saturday, September 27, were led by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who extolled the late former IGP’s virtues after which the Police gave him farewell salutes before his body was airlifted in a Nigerian Airforce jet to Benin city.
Meanwhile, the remains of the late IGP Solomon Arase will be lowered to mother earth, on Friday, October 3rd 2025 in his Benin residence.
