Famous American rapper, record producer and record executive, Sean “Diddy” Combs was on Friday, sentenced to Fifty months in prison for prostitution related offences.
The music titan, 55, was convicted in July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, also known as the Mann Act.
In July, a jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution related to his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and a victim who testified under the pseudonym “Jane.”
Although Combs faced a maximum of 20 years in prison and Federal prosecutors had asked for a sentence of more than 11 years in prison, Judge Arun Subramanian opted for fifty months jail term and as well imposed the maximum fine of $500,000.
Before the sentencing, Combs begged the Judge for “mercy” and acknowledged his behavior was “disgusting, shameful and sick. But Judge Arun told the court on Friday that a substantial sentence was needed “to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.”
Meanwhile, Sean “Diddy” Combs’s attorneys said they will appeal his sentence. His defense attorney, Brian Steel, called it “un-American” in an interview with CNN.
“People get — god forbid — falsely accused of a crime, they go to trial, they have all the witnesses testify, credibility is determined, the jury reaches a verdict, and finds in their favor — and then they get sentenced for the same exact conduct that the jury found that they did not commit,” Steel said.
