INEC CHAIRMAN: MAY AGBAMUCHE TAKES OVER AS PROF. MAHMOOD YAKUBU’S TENURE ENDS

Ms May Agbamuche on Tuesday, assumed duties as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the expiration of Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s tenure.

Outgoing chairman, Prof. Yakubu himself announced Agbamuche as acting head of the agency during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Agbamuche, who has been part of the commission for years, now takes over in an interim capacity, making her the longest-serving National Commissioner currently at INEC.

In his farewell remarks, the outgoing chairman called on all directors and RECs to give Agbamuche their full cooperation as she leads the commission pending the appointment of a new substantive chairman.

Yakubu’s handover marks the beginning of a new phase for INEC’s leadership as preparations for upcoming elections continue across the country.
