Nigeria’s Mariam Eniola Bolaji has emerged the first African para-badminton player to be ranked 1st in the world in the SL3 Category by the Para Badminton World Federation.
Bolaji usurped Indonesia’s Qonitah Ikhtiar Syakuroh from the number 1 spot, polling 63,950 points after reaching the final at the World Badminton Championships.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Eniola Mariam Bolaji became the first African athlete to win a medal at either the Olympics or the Paralympics, winning a Bronze medal in the women’s Singles SL3 Para-Badminton event.
