AILFF’26: AFRICA’S CREATIVE POWERHOUSE HEADS TO PARAKOU FOR HISTORIC INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE FILM AND CULTURE FESTIVAL

Africa’s creative industry is set to converge on Parakou this July as the African Indigenous Language Film Festival (AILFF), in collaboration with the acclaimed Asha Yoruba Festival, takes centre stage from 20–25 July 2026.

Touted as a landmark gathering for Africa’s film, arts, and cultural sectors, AILFF’26 will bring together filmmakers, scholars, cultural custodians, media executives, equipment suppliers, and policymakers from across the continent and beyond. The festival celebrates films produced in indigenous African languages, championing storytelling traditions, cultural heritage, and creative excellence.

Beyond film screenings, the festival offers a full programme of professional and cultural activities, including academic paper presentations, digital filmmaking workshops, and a special workshop on translation and film dubbing. Attendees will also participate in networking sessions, project pitching, co-production opportunities, and guided tours of Parakou, combining professional growth with cultural immersion.

The week-long festival will culminate in a grand gala and Pan-African industry award night, recognising individuals, corporate bodies, and government institutions that have made outstanding contributions to Africa’s film, arts, and creative industries. “AILFF’26 is not just a festival, it is a movement,” said one organiser. “It connects storytellers with platforms, broadcasters, investors, and technology providers while preserving our languages and cultural heritage for future generations.”

Hosting the festival in Parakou, known as the gateway to northern Benin, adds a vibrant cultural dimension. Visitors can explore colourful markets, traditional crafts, authentic West African cuisine, and a lively cultural scene, where tradition and modernity intersect.

With cinema, culture, scholarship, industry networking, workshops, and continental recognition awards, AILFF’26 promises a transformative experience for Africa’s creative community. Missing the festival would mean missing one of the continent’s most significant cultural and industry gatherings of 2026.
