FMR. ABIA PDP CANDIDATE, PROF. UCHE IKONNE BURIED

The remains of former Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne, was on Friday laid to rest at his Agburuike village, Nsulu Community in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.

The week-long funeral programme, which commenced with a Commendation service/sing song on Monday April 24, 2023 and included a Valedictory Senate service at the Abia State University, ABSU, Uturu on Wednesday April 26th climaxed with interment on Friday April 28, 2023 after a funeral service by the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Isiala Ngwa at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Agburuike Nsulu.

Prof. Ikonne died suddenly at the heat of the 2023 election campaign at the National Hospital Abuja on Wednesday, 25th January 2023 after a brief illness. He was aged 66.

Born on 15th August 1956, Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, a Nigerian professor of Optometry served as the 7th Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu and was a one time Rector of Abia Poly, Aba.

Prominent among those who were present at the event include, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, former Gov. Sen. Theodore Orji, Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Sir Oko Chukwu, Chief Asiforo Okere, the State Chairman of PDP, and Chief Okey Ahiwe, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, former Senate President and Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barrister Emeka Enwereji, Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, Eze Sir Nwabeke and members of the Council, Pro Chancellor, Chief Mba Ukariwo and members of the Abia State University Governing Council, Vice Chancellor of ABSU, Professor Onyemaechi Ogbulu and management of the Abia State University, among several others.
