TINUBU PICKS NWAKUCHE NDIDI AS ACTING COMPTROLLER GENERAL, NCS

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nwakuche Ndidi as the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), with his tenure set to commence on 15 December 2024.

This appointment follows the retirement of Haliru Nababa, who bowed out of service after reaching the statutory retirement age. Nababa’s departure was commemorated with a Pulling Out Parade in Abuja, where he reflected on his 34-year career.

During the event, Nababa described his tenure as a journey marked by collaboration and inclusivity. Under his leadership, the service achieved significant milestones in security, logistics, healthcare, staff capacity building, and inmate welfare. He expressed gratitude to his management team and urged continued dedication to the service’s mission.

Nababa, who was appointed as Comptroller General on 10 May 2021, leaves behind a legacy of progress and reform in the service.

His successor, Nwakuche Ndidi, brings a wealth of experience to the role. A native of Oguta, Imo State, and born on 26 November 1966, Ndidi is a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and a recipient of the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) honour. Prior to his new appointment, he served as Deputy Controller-General overseeing Training and Staff Development.

Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, commended Ndidi’s impressive credentials, expressing confidence in his ability to build on Nababa’s achievements and address emerging challenges.

President Tinubu has tasked Ndidi with leveraging his expertise to further advance the Nigerian Correctional Service and uphold its integrity.
