By Christopher Odamah, Asaba

Delta State Library Board in commemoration of World Book Day 2025 took to the streets of Asaba on the 30th day of April, 2025 for a vibrant and inspiring sensitization road walk with the theme: Read your Way,

The sensitization road walk began at the State Library Board office located on Mariam Babangida Way to Summit road, down to Nnebisi road by Konwe Plaza to Anwai road and from there to Okpanam road.

Speaking at the event, the State Board Chairman, Barr. Ogboru Elmoni Innocent said the sensitization road walk was aimed at improving the reading culture, lamenting that the readership energy in our youths had dropped significantly, a development that could not help the state.

According to him, “Our plan is to make sure every person in Delta State has a reading culture and the importance of the road walk, we believe is fundamental to personal growth and community development.

“This road walk is about igniting a passion for reading in our young people and promoting lifelong learning for everyone.”

He reiterated that the Board, in line with the MORE Agenda of the State Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori would soon embark on a book fair and seminars to educate and talk to students and parents on how to improve reading culture within themselves.

All these programs are going to come up anytime soon by God’s Grace. He called on Deltans and residents to visit the State Libraries to read, research, internet services, CBT on/CBE, Excursions and lots more.

Ogboru thanked the Governor, His Excellency for making this program possible because if not for him, we won’t have embarked on this sensitization Road walk and for giving an approval for the Board to be connected to IPP, we need our libraries to be well equipped to international standard, we need staff and so many other things.

The event which aimed at fostering a stronger reading culture saw participants of all ages marching with banners, chanting slogans and sharing the joy of reading.
