By Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori
My fellow Deltans and residents of Delta State, I thank you sincerely for your support and prayers.
How time truly flies. It seems like only yesterday that I took the oath of office as Governor of Delta State on May 29, 2023. Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our sight.
I remain profoundly grateful to God for finding me worthy to serve Him and the people of Delta State in this capacity. The journey so far has been eventful, exciting and enlightening.
It has been eventful because the last three years have been marked by initiatives and programmes designed to improve the living standards of our people. It has been exciting because in the last three years, we have undertaken and completed infrastructural projects that many once considered impossible. It has also been enlightening because public service exposes one to the realities of governance and the complexities of human behaviour.
Overall, the experience has been deeply fulfilling experience. Although there have been challenges along the way, with the wisdom and grace of God, coupled with prudent management of our resources, we have successfully navigated them and continued to deliver on our promises to the people.
As we have done every year, it is important that we gather to give thanks to God for His goodness, faithfulness and mercy during this year andin preparation for the next journey. We must always appreciate God in everything we do. We do not claim credit for the achievements recorded by this administration. Whatever we have accomplished has been possible only through God’s grace and mercy.
We are here today to thank Him for granting us the wisdom to execute mega projects across the state without borrowing a kobo. Every contract awarded by this administration is backed by available funds, and we have consistently met our obligations to contractors. We thank God for the strength, protection and enablement He has given us as we continue to serve the people of Delta State. Indeed, God remains our Rock and our Refuge.
Another reason for thanksgiving is the peace we continue to enjoy in our state. As our guest minister rightly stated, humility is important, and gratitude to God is essential. Without peace, development cannot thrive. We thank God for blessing our efforts in maintaining peace and security across the state.
As a result, Delta State remains one of the most peaceful and investment-friendly states in Nigeria. Today, many companies are expressing interest in investing in our state. We have recorded remarkable progress, and I can confidently say that God has been good to us.
On security matters, I commend all security agencies and military formations for their commitment and sacrifices in ensuring the safety of lives and property.
At this point, I wish to express my profound gratitude to my predecessors in office, Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. They laid the foundation upon which we are building today. I came into office to consolidate and expand on their achievements. May God continue to bless and preserve them for us.
In the same spirit of appreciation, I thank our traditional rulers, political leaders, religious leaders, fathers of faith, Presidents-General of our various communities, opinion leaders, labour leaders, youths and all other stakeholders for their unwavering support, patience and understanding.
Thank you for standing firmly with the government and for helping to ensure that our communities remain peaceful, safe and welcoming. Such cooperation is essential for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
Permit me to specially appreciate my hardworking Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, for his loyalty, dedication and extraordinary devotion to public service.
I also commend the Speaker and members of the Delta State House of Assembly for their partnership and support in advancing the developmental goals of this administration.
My gratitude equally goes to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the State Executive Council, the civil service and all political appointees for their commitment to the faithful implementation of government policies and programmes.
It will be a remiss if I fail to appreciate our guest minister, Apostle Joshua Selman. Thank you for honouring our invitation and for delivering such an inspiring and impactful message. You have truly given us food for thought with your inspirational message. May God continue to increase His grace upon your life and ministry.
I also appreciate all the music ministers who have been a blessing to us today. May your light continue to shine brighter and brighter unto the perfect day.
Finally, I thank all Deltans and residents of our dear state for keeping faith with this administration. I urge you to sustain your support as we enter the final lap of the first tenure of this government.
Let me also specially acknowledge the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bomadi. My Lord Bishop, thank you for coming. We appreciate your presence and support. To all our fathers of faith and leaders who have gathered here in large numbers, I say thank you.
Delta State is our home. We do not have another state. What is important is how we come together to build this state. I firmly believe that Delta State will become the envy of other states in Nigeria.
That is my dream, and I believe it is your dream as well. However, it can only be achieved through unity. It is only with unity that our state can continue to move forward.
Therefore, I appeal to all our leaders and stakeholders to continue to support the government. No government is perfect, but together we can overcome challenges and move our state to greater heights.
I assure you that I will not disappoint you. By the grace of God, I will continue to do my best and leave behind a legacy that generations will remember.
Thank you, and may God bless Delta State.
God bless you all.
