Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66. His death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an Instagram Live session.
The actor’s death comes barely days after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, publicly appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, revealing that he was battling stage-four cancer. The family had sought help from medical professionals and hospitals as his condition deteriorated.
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba-language film industry, with a career spanning several decades. He was widely recognised for his performances in numerous Nollywood productions and also worked as a producer, director and screenwriter.
His passing has sparked mourning among fans, colleagues and other stakeholders in the Nigerian entertainment industry, who have continued to pay tribute to his contribution to Nollywood. His death also marks another major loss for the Yoruba film community.
