DICKSON, OBI, KWANKWASO GET KEY ROLES AS NDC UNVEILS CAMPAIGN COUNCIL

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, in a move designed to provide strategic leadership, coordinate campaign activities across the country, and mobilise Nigerians behind the party’s vision of a new, just, and prosperous Nigeria.

In a statement announcing thIMG 20261025 WA0014e development, the party said the council would deliver a people-centred and issue-based campaign.

It will work under the Chairmanship of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson CON, the NDC National Leader. His Excellency Mr Peter Obi CON, the party’s presidential candidate, will serve as Co-Chairman, while Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, the NDC National Chairman, is Vice Chairman.

The vice-presidential candidate, His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will act as Co-Vice-Chairman. Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC National Secretary, will serve as Council Secretary, with Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim appointed as Director-General.

The composition of the council brings together some of the country’s most prominent political figures. Senator Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, has long been a leading voice in national politics.

Mr Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, while Senator Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and former Minister of Defence, was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the same cycle. Their convergence under the NDC banner is seen by analysts as a potentially significant realignment of political forces ahead of the 2027 contest.

The party said the council would drive the mobilisation of Nigerians behind its vision and coordinate campaign activities nationwide. It also called on all party members, supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to remain united and focused. “We call on all party members, supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to remain united and focused,” the party said.

Political observers suggest that the lineup is intended to appeal to a broad cross-section of the electorate, combining experience, regional balance, and a track record of governance. The appointment of Mallam Abdulkarim as Director-General is also viewed as a strategic move to ensure effective coordination of the campaign machinery. The NDC has consistently positioned itself as a party of change, emphasising its commitment to justice, equity, and prosperity for all Nigerians.

With the campaign council now in place, the party is expected to intensify its grassroots mobilisation and policy advocacy in the coming months. The statement concluded with a call for unity, urging members and supporters to remain focused as the party prepares for the challenges of the 2027 general elections
The NDC’s ability to translate its vision into electoral success will depend largely on how effectively the new council can galvanise support across the country’s diverse political landscape.
