Taiwo Olowu of Nigeria has been crowned the West African Boxing Union (WABU) super welterweight champion. Olowu, popularly known as Gentle Boy, defeated Ghana’s Alidu Sulemana via split decision to claim the regional belt on Tuesday at GOtv Boxing Night 30 held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. Sulemana was a last-minute replacement for compatriot Michael Ansah who had been earlier scheduled to face Olowu. The victory was Gentle Boy’s 16th win in 17 professional fights with just one loss.
