History was made yesterday evening in the London borough of Hamlet as Nigerian-born Victoria Obaze was sworn in as the first black female Civic Mayor of the Borough. Obaze’s ascendance to the office came after she joined politics about 30 years ago. She was elected as one of the board of directors to oversee the regeneration of her area, the Ocean Estate, in the 1980s.
