LAGOS GOVT. SHUTS ALABA INTERNATIONAL MARKET, CITES ENVIRONMENTAL OFFENCES

The multibillion naira Alaba international market has been closed down by the Lagos state government over alleged Sanitation concern.

Some traders who arrived early at the Alaba International market Monday morning to start the week’s business were locked out of their shops by officials of Lagos State Waste Management Agency under the ministry of environment.

The Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Environment, Adekunle Adesina in his response said officials of the Lagos state Waste Management authority and men of the task force on Environmental Sanitation, Monday October 23rd 2023, sealed up Alaba International market for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay waste Bill’s and gross environmental Sanitation offences.

Meanwhile, the leadership of Alaba International market Electronics in their reaction to the market closure refuted the issue of not adhering with the state government regulations as they called on Governor Babajide Sanwuolu to reopen the market.

They wondered why having engaged the services of the private sector participation (PSP) over refuse disposal at the market and up to date with their financial commitment the market was shut.

For them, the Closure of the market without prior notice was uncalled for.
