EGUAVOEN TAKES OVER AS PESEIRO QUITS EAGLES JOB

Super Eagles technical director, Augustine Eguavoen, has taken over the coaching role of the Nigerian Football team after Jose Peseiro quit the position on Friday.

Peseiro, 63, failed to  put pen to a new contract following the expiration of his former contract on Thursday

Appointed since May 2022, the Portuguese led Nigeria to the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast, where the Eagles won silver.

Augustine Eguavoen, will take charge of the three-time AFCON winners on an interim basis, till a permanent solution is sorted out.

Recall that Eguavoen was in charge of the Nigerian team at the AFCON 2021 tournament in Cameroon, following the exit of the former coach, Gernot Rohr.

The 58-year-old remained in charge of the team after Nigeria were knocked out of the AFCON tournament in Cameroon at the round of sixteen stage by Tunisia.

Eguavoen was the team’s technical director when they took a silver medal at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.
