That the current National Financial Secretary, Ngwa National Association United States of America, NNAUSA, Elder Dr. Ugo Agu is the leading contender for the presidency of the association right now, is not news.
What is news is the radical agenda the Obuba Nvosi in Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State-born technocrat who currently resides in New York has unveiled and which has galvanized his campaign and drawn the majority of the people to his side.
Basically, Elder Dr. Ugo Agu is the candidate who is coming prepared. Hear him, “I’m running for leadership because I believe in NNAUSA’s potential and want to contribute my skills and experience to drive meaningful progress. I’m committed to listening to our members, amplifying their voices, and working tirelessly to address our community’s evolving needs.”
“I understand our current challenges and opportunities well. I also have a good understanding of the aspirations of our members for NNAUSA.”
His campaign is running on an seven-point plan that has got everyone talking. For starters, AGU, is deeply passionate about empowering the NNAUSA community in the US and at home and believes in harnessing the collective strengths of the association to drive positive change and improve lives.
The seven-point plan, is a masterpiece manifesto which members have found irresistible and which has drawn them to his campaign. The plans include Empowerment and Community Development Goals which involves charitable programs, increasing support for vulnerable members of the community by 20% within the first year. There is also the “Teach and Learn Ngwa language” project. Already the candidate has gone far in developing an app that will connect all Ngwa children and adults passionate about understanding the Ngwa language.
Agu is also promising a radical membership drive across the United States and a special focus on the Senior citizens. The plan also has a robust drive to develop the NNAUSA youth by mentorship and involving them in leadership of the association amongst several other issues.
He is not also forgetting spreading projects that will benefit members and the entire Ngwa land as well as such issues as increment in bereavement benefits.
Besides these, Dr. Ugo Agu is boosted by his leadership experience and qualifications. He is the only presidential candidate with direct NNAUSA Executive Leadership. He is the current NNAUSA National Financial Secretary since 2022. He has previously served as NNAUSA Budget Committee Chairman, NNAUSA Convention Finance Committee Chairman and past NNAUSA Logistics Committee Chairman.
It is to his credit that the association has achieved financial prudent and expanded its donation platforms and consistently releasing a financial report to council meetings with no ambiguity.
As Financial secretary, Elder Dr. Ugo Agu worked with the President to ensure the smooth running of the association, raised funds to carry out projects including completing the Ngwa Unity Complex.
Beyond NNAUSA, Dr. Ugo Agu, a man of faith serving as a leader in First Igbo Seventh – Day Adventist Church, New York is a prominent member of the Ngwa Cultural Organization (NCO) where he holds the position of General Secretary, since 2018. Before then, he was NCO Asst. Gen. Secretary for four years.
He is currently the Financial Secretary, East Nigeria Seventh Day Adventists in the New York Metropolitan Area (ENSDANY) and current Financial Secretary, North American Council of Eastern Nigeria Adventists (NACENA). He has extended his services home as a former Special Adviser to the President, Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan as well as Technical Adviser to President Goodluck’s State House Economic Team. He is also a Consultant, United Nations & International Labour Organization, etc.
Elder Ugo Agu, holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nigeria, and an MPA, Economic Policy Management, from Columbia University, New York.
Outside several professional certifications and courses, he also holds an MSc, Economic Development and Planning, from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as well as a Bsc, Economics, from the University of Calabar, Nigeria.
He is married to Dr. Chinyere Agu MD , an Asst Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology Specialist and they are blessed with 3 Children.
