COSON BOARD RATIFIES 7 BIG EVENTS OF THE MASTER-BLASTER ‘COSON WEEK’ SET TO BEGIN ON MAY 25

The full Board of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Nigeria’s biggest copyright collective management organization, this Tuesday, April 8, 2025, met at the Boardroom of the magnificent COSON House in Ikeja, and took several important decisions.

After serious deliberations, the Board ratified each of the seven big events of the COSON Week, which ‘explodes’ across the city of Lagos from Sunday, May 25. The Board also approved a bonus event.

As approved by the COSON Board, at 4.00pm on Sunday, May 25, COSON Week 2025 will begin, as Chapel of Christ the Light in Ikeja, becomes the epicentre of the country as the National Day of Prayer from which the songs and praise of Nigeria’s topmost gospel singers and ministers of the gospel, will be beamed to millions of citizens, in towns and villages across Nigeria and across the world. Nigerians will be linked by an unprecedented mix of simultaneous broadcast, streaming and videocasting, deploying various communication technologies, so that in one voice, the diverse people of Nigeria, wherever they are, can join in supplication, to seek the face of the Almighty, to give the Nigerian nation a new lease of life, and restore optimism to Nigeria’s children.

Other massive events of the COSON Week approved, include “The 2025 COSON Lecture”, to take place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island on May 26 at which erudite lawyer and top political player, Babatunde Ogala SAN will address the critical subject, “The Political & Legal Environment Necessary for the Continued Growth of the Nigerian Creative Industry”. A special panel of knowledgeable legal minds, top policy makers and respected creative industry operatives will dissect and discuss the paper, to enrich policy making for the creative and related industries in the Nigerian nation.

Of course, “Children’s Day at COSON House” will be held at the magnificent COSON House on May 27.
As approved by the COSON Board, the city of Lagos will for the first time, on Wednesday, May 28, experience an unprecedented 24 hours non-stop music concert, “The COSON Mega Jamz” at Freedom Park Lagos.

In cooperation with the top-notch Care Life Medical Centre, Lagos; doctors, nurses, medical lab experts and pharmacists, will on Thursday May 29, be on hand at COSON House, Ikeja, to examine sick and infirmed musicians, provide advice and medications to them at no cost, as the program called “the COSON Medical Outreach” takes place.

“COSON in the Mosque” will hold at Lagos Central Mosque, Carter Street, Ebute Metta on May 30.
In the evening of the same May 30, the super-exclusive “COSON Green Ball” will take place and 150 of Nigeria’s most influential persons and their spouses will be given a treat of a life time, as Nigeria’s crème de la crème walk the green carpet at MUSON Centre, Lagos, get treated to the best cuisine money can buy and enjoy the best entertainment to be found anywhere.

The Board also approved a bonus event, “COSON VISITS THE LESS PRIVILEGED” for Saturday, May 31, on which day, the COSON leadership and members round up the 2025 COSON Week with visits to some orphanages and charity homes, bearing gifts and presents.

The Board decided that till May 31, 2025, every mobilizable should be mobilized to ensure that COSON WEEK 2025 is, in every way, unforgettable.​
One of the many important decisions taken by the Board at the meeting was the approval of the audited accounts and financial returns of the society for the year ended 31st December 2024.

The Board agreed on several measures to be adopted to significantly boost the income to be distributed to the members and affiliates of the society and to protect the abuse of their rights. It also received reports on the different ongoing law suits against infringers of the copyright of COSON members and assignors, across diverse courts in Nigeria.

The Board reaffirmed its determination to ensure that COSON remains an agent of strength, unity, progress and growth for the creative industry in Nigeria, and an institution that will continue to make transparency and accountability the core elements of its operation.

The COSON Board has Chief Tony Okoroji, the celebrated former President of PMAN as Chairman. Other members of the Board include Afro Juju Maestro, Sir Shina Peters; Gospel music minister, Kenny Saint Brown; Ace-drummer and producer, Richard Ayodele Cole; Reggae gospel star, Righteousman Erhabor; Producer and TV host, Nimyel Nansel, better known as Zdon Paporella; Vivacious performer and first daughter of the legendry Ras Kimono, Oge Kimono Onwubuya, and well-known Enugu based music toaster and publisher, Sir Angus Power Nwangwu.

Also on the COSON Board are Abuja based music publisher and war horse of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN), Chief Uche Emeka Paul; Gospel Music Minister, Evangelist Olusegun Omoyayi; National President of Music Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MUPMAN), Engr Sharon Esco Wilson; Showbiz Impresario, Koffi Idowu Nuel, also known as Koffi Tha Guru and the renowned accountant and General Manager of COSON, Mrs Bernice Eriemeghe Ashibuogwu.
