AWUJALE: OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT GIVES GREENLIGHT TO RESTART SELECTION PROCESS

The Ogun State government has given approval for the resumption of the selection process of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The approval came via a letter to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House from the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area, asking the ruling house to re-commence the selection process for the next Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

Dated January 6, 2026, the letter requested that the nomination process must be concluded within 14 days of approval.

By implication, the list of nominees cleared by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, is expected to be made public on or before January 20, 2026.

Thebladengr gathered that the letter signed by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo on behalf of the Executive Chairman, was received on behalf of the Ruling House by Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, Chairman & Head (Olori-Ebi) of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

It will be recalled that the selection process was put on hold by the state government late last year to ensure compliance with the extant chieftaincy laws of the state.

The Awujale stool became vacant after the transition of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who joined his ancestors in July 2025 at the age of 91.
