Prince Nduka Obaigbena, chairman of the THISDAY/ARISE Media Group, has announced the launch of LekeeLekee, a new social media platform introduced as part of the company’s broader digital expansion strategy.
In a statement accompanying the rollout, Prince Nduka Obaigbena revealed that the platform is now accessible via the App Store, Google Play, and the web, with an additional Progressive Web App option designed to ensure smooth use across different devices and internet conditions.
Described as a fast, modern social networking service and super app, LekeeLekee was developed to address the needs of underserved networks and communities. According to the company, the platform is optimised for low-bandwidth environments, delivering low-data, high-speed content feeds alongside features such as video sharing, voice-note messaging, community groups, and integrated content moderation tools.
Obaigbena said the initiative responds to what he views as a widening gap between global technology platforms and local user realities. He explained that the new service is intended to be “fast, fair, and open,” focusing on amplifying user voices rather than extracting value from them.
Beyond social networking, LekeeLekee is positioned as a broader digital ecosystem aimed at empowering users, encouraging genuine interaction, and supporting inclusive online communities. Industry observers note that the launch signals the media group’s formal entry into the competitive social media landscape, leveraging its established presence in broadcasting and print to build a homegrown alternative.
Obaigbena urged the public to adopt the platform, describing it as an opportunity to help shape a more balanced and locally grounded digital future. The debut represents another step in the organisation’s innovation agenda and highlights its ambition to redefine digital engagement from an African perspective.
