The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his application seeking a stay of execution of an earlier order revoking his bail.
Justice Mohammed Umar issued the order after a brief ruling, directing that Sowore remain in custody until the hearing and resolution of the application filed by his new counsel, .
The court adjourned the matter until June 24 for the hearing of the application.
Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara reporters, arrived at the court alongside supporters of his group, some of whom carried placards.
The development followed a June 16 ruling by Justice Umar, in which the court revoked Sowore’s bail after he failed to appear for his ongoing trial. The judge also issued a bench warrant for his arrest following an oral application by counsel to the (DSS), Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN.
The DSS is prosecuting Sowore over allegations bordering on false claims against the President , following a social media post in which he allegedly referred to the President as “a criminal” on his X and Facebook accounts.
Sowore has denied wrongdoing and is challenging the court’s earlier decision through his application for a stay of the bail revocation order.
