The Adventist University of Africa has formally installed Professor Ademola S. Tayo as its fourth Vice Chancellor in a ceremony attended by church leaders, faculty, students, and dignitaries from across the continent.
Professor Tayo, a Nigerian scholar and ordained Adventist minister, succeeds Professor Vincent Injety. His appointment comes at a pivotal time when the university is expanding its graduate programs, strengthening research capacity, and deepening its role in training transformational leaders across Africa. Church officials described his leadership as timely for an institution positioned to address the continent’s educational and spiritual needs.
In his inaugural address, Professor Tayo said Mentor to Inspire, Serve to Strengthen, Innovate for Outreach, and Nurture for Eternity, (MISSION) will serve as the guiding framework for his tenure
He stressed that academic excellence must go hand in hand with spiritual growth, community service, and innovation in teaching to meet the needs of the continent. He noted that the university must not only produce scholars, but also men and women of character who can influence society through faith, service, and professional integrity.
Professor Tayo outlined plans to expand partnerships with Adventist institutions globally, increase scholarship opportunities for students from underserved communities, and invest in digital learning platforms to make quality theological and professional education more accessible. He also emphasized faculty development, research that addresses African challenges, and stronger collaboration with the church to ensure the university’s programs remain relevant to ministry and mission.
“The core focus of the university under my leadership will remain Christ-centered education,” Professor Ademola S. Tayo, Vice Chancellor, stated. “Everything we do must advance the mission of Christ through education.”
He pledged to work with faculty, students, and church partners to ensure the university continues to produce graduates committed to service and impact both on the continent and beyond.
