*Late Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe
Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, founder and proprietor of Gregory University Uturu (GUU), Abia State, and former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is dead.
His death was announced on Monday, October 19, 2026, by the Ibe family of Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. According to the family, the renowned academic, entrepreneur and philanthropist died following a series of health challenges, which he faced with courage and strength.
In an obituary statement issued on behalf of the royal family of HRH Eze Cyril Ibe, Okwelube I of Amaokwe Achara Autonomous Community, the deceased was described as a distinguished academic, administrator, educationist, entrepreneur, philanthropist and statesman who dedicated his life to education and service to humanity.
Beyond founding Gregory University Uturu, Professor Ibe established Skill ‘G’ Ltd., Innov8 Hub and other initiatives aimed at promoting education, entrepreneurship and skills development. Through these ventures, he contributed to expanding educational opportunities, empowering young people and supporting socioeconomic development in his community and beyond.
The family said Ibe’s legacy extended beyond his professional achievements, noting that he was a loving father, cherished brother, devoted grandfather and dependable pillar of support. He is survived by six children and seven grandchildren, who, alongside the numerous students and beneficiaries of his initiatives, will continue to cherish his contributions.
The family expressed appreciation for the prayers, messages of sympathy and support received since his passing, while appealing for continued prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul. It also requested privacy as members mourn their patriarch and come to terms with their loss.
Funeral arrangements, according to the statement, will be communicated to the public in due course. The family prayed for the peaceful repose of the late professor’s soul, expressing hope that his contributions to education, entrepreneurship and community development would endure beyond his lifetime.
