The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has called on Nigerians to reject former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and all candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the next general elections, accusing the opposition party’s leadership of failing to pay its staff salaries for more than a year.
The council, in a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, described the alleged non-payment of staff salaries as evidence of insincerity and poor management, arguing that a party unable to meet its obligations to its workforce cannot be trusted to govern Nigeria effectively.
The APC campaign council specifically accused the ADC National Working Committee, led by Senator David Mark as chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as secretary, of neglecting the welfare of party employees despite the party’s promises to Nigerians. It described the situation as unacceptable, noting that workers depend on their salaries to meet their daily needs.
The council also levelled allegations of unpaid salaries against Atiku, claiming that employees of his Gotel Communications and other businesses had experienced months of delayed payments and staged protests over outstanding salaries and benefits. It further criticised Atiku over his alleged frequent trips to the United Arab Emirates, contrasting them with the reported difficulties faced by his workers. These claims were presented by the APC as part of its argument against the former vice-president’s presidential ambition.
Alake also criticised Aregbesola’s record as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, accusing his administration of mismanaging state finances and introducing half-salary and quarter-salary payments for workers. The APC spokesperson further alleged that pensioners were left without adequate support for years, with some reportedly dying after struggling to afford basic necessities. He argued that the ADC’s alleged failure to pay its staff reflected a pattern of poor leadership among its key figures.
The APC campaign council urged Nigerian voters, particularly workers, to reject Atiku and other ADC candidates at the polls, insisting that the party’s alleged failure to fulfil its obligations to employees raised questions about its capacity to manage the country’s affairs.
