FLAMINGOS LOSE 0-2 TO USA, CRASHES OUT OF U-17 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP

The Flamingos of Nigeria have crashed out of the 2024 FIFA U-17 women’s world cup ongoing at the Dominican Republic.

The Flamingos were beaten 2-0 by the USA ladies in a quarterfinal clash on Saturday, October 26.

Apart from reaching the Semi Finals of the tournament, the USA ladies also asserted their revenge on the Nigerian girls who bundled them out of the 2022 edition in India.

The USA began the game cautiously, defending deep to nullify Nigeria’s attacking threat. The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute when the USA was awarded a penalty after sustained pressure. Kennedy Fuller calmly converted from the spot to give the Americans a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Flamingos came out with renewed determination, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. However, the USA’s disciplined defence held firm, frustrating Nigeria’s attacking efforts.

The USA doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Kennedy Fuller provided a well-timed pass to Kimmi Acsanio, who slotted home from close range. Despite making several substitutions in an attempt to spark a comeback, the Flamingos could not find a way past the resolute American defence.
