ABIA STATE TO HONOUR LATE REV DR UMA UKPAI WITH STATE BURIAL SERVICE ON MARCH 26

The Abia State Government has announced plans to organise a state burial service in honour of the late Rev Dr Uma Ukpai, a renowned cleric and one of the state’s most distinguished sons.

Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made the disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.

According to Kanu, the solemn event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Describing the late preacher as “a devoted ambassador of Christ whose ministerial exploits brought honour and recognition to Abia State and beyond,” the commissioner said the state burial is a fitting tribute to Rev Ukpai’s immense contributions to Christianity and the nation.

Meanwhile, former Abia Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on the state government to immortalise the late Rev Dr Uma Ukpai.

In a statement, Senator Kalu described the deceased as “a spiritual icon whose contributions to Christianity and societal development remain indelible,” adding that his influence went far beyond the pulpit, touching lives across Nigeria and the world.

“With the burial of this great servant of God taking place in Ohafia this week, it is only fitting that the Abia State Government takes concrete steps to immortalise him,” Kalu said.

He further urged leaders to emulate the virtues of humility, discipline, dedication to service, and sacrifice that defined Rev Ukpai’s life.
