Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Magnus Abe, Samuel Anyanwu and other political leaders on Friday gathered in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, to bid farewell to the late South-South National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Osi Orbih.

Speaking at the funeral service at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ogbona, Okpebholo recalled that his first visit to the church was to celebrate Orbih’s birthday. He expressed sadness that he had returned to the same venue to mourn his friend, describing the occasion as a reminder of life’s uncertainty.
The governor urged Nigerians, particularly public office holders, to use their positions and resources to make meaningful contributions to society. He also prayed for strength and comfort for Orbih’s family and thanked Wike for standing by them during the difficult period.
In his remarks, Wike described Orbih as a close friend and brother, expressing sadness over the loss. He thanked Okpebholo for receiving the deceased’s remains at his residence in Benin City and paying his last respects.
Wike also dismissed suggestions of a disagreement between him and Okpebholo, insisting that their relationship remained cordial and that they would continue to work together.
Delivering the homily, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Dunia, urged the congregation to live purposeful lives, stressing that titles, academic qualifications, social status and personal achievements were secondary to one’s responsibilities to God and humanity. Citing John 11:35, he called on the faithful to follow the path of truth and light.
Dunia recalled that Orbih’s parents introduced him to the Catholic faith and that he was born, baptised and dedicated in the church. He urged Nigerians to remain spiritually prepared and live in a manner that positively impacts others.
