GUILTY AS CHARGED! NAIRA MARLEY BAGS N100,000 FINE FOR BREACHING COVID-19 RULES

Controversial music star, Naira Marley and his Manager, Seyi Awonuga, have been fined N100,000 each for breaching COVID-19 rules.

The fine was handed down after the musician pleaded guilty to a one count charge preferred against him at the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court, Oshodi for violating the cessation of movement and interstates travel order in Lagos.

He was arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command for violating the cessation of movement and interstates travel order in Lagos.

On June 13th, 2020 Naira Marley in total violation of the lockdown order, had embarked on a non essential travel from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos the same date, through Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja for a musical concert in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja thereby committing an offence punishable under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention) Regulation No. 2 of 2020, under Section 58 of Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The federal government had earlier suspended Executive Jet Services, the airline which flew the artist and his crew to Abuja, although the ban has now been lifted.

Before the latest incident, it would be recalled that on April 9, 2020, Naira Marley signed an undertaking to join the Lagos State government’s campaign against the spread of COVID-19 after he was charged for breaching the state’s social distancing directive following his attendance at actress Funke Akindele’s husband’s birthday party.
