All roads led to the Aba Town Hall, Aba, Abia State yesterday, as the Revised Edition of the famous book, ‘Aba & British Rule’, was launched.

According to Sir Don Ubani; KSC, Okwubunka of Asa, the book written by His Royal Highness, Eze, the Right Honourable Sir Johnson Nnata Elewemba Nwaguru, “ gives a deep insight into the Administrative and Political developments of Old Aba Division between 1896 and 1967”.

A Political Science graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Rt. Hon. Eze Nwaguru, now 87 years, wrote the first edition of the deep-rooted historic book over 40 years ago.

In their separate forwards, erudite History scholar, Professor A E Afigbo, a former Administrator of Aba Province during the Nigeria/Biafra War, Mr M N Onwuma and a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Chukwuemeka Wogu, described the book as “a compendium that captures almost all the historical aspects of British Colonial Administration in the Old Aba Division”.

Rt. Hon. Sir Johnson Nwaguru, who is currently the Traditional Ruler of Isi-Ihie Autonomous Community in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, had risen from the ranks to the enviable position of Chief Archivist at the National Archives of Nigeria before he retired from public service.

He was Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, where he represented Obioma-Ngwa-West State Constituency, now Osisioma and Ugwunagbo in 1991, on the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention, NRC, when Dr Ogbonnaya Onu served as the first elected Governor of the State.
