Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex C. Otti , the Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somto Udeze, Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Mr. Peter Obi, Senator Chris Ngige, Anambra Central Senator, Senator Victor Umeh OFR Anambra South Senator, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator Uche Ekwunife, were among several dignitaries, who attended the burial ceremony of late Senator Annie Okonkwo in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Wednesday.


The late top politician and businessman was buried after a funeral mass held in his honour at St Paul’s Catholic Church. The funeral mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, assisted by the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, and other clergymen.
Other prominent Nigerians at the event, included Senator Ben Obi, Senator Andy Uba, Chief Dozie Nwankwo, Chief Obiora Okonkwo(CEO United Airline), Chief George Moghalu, Chief Ugochukwu Okeke, Chief Chika Okafor(Chicason), Chief Basil Ejidike(APC Chairman, Anambra State), Sir Sydney Chukwukelu, Hon Nikky Nwabeze, Chief Uche Nworah.
Senator Annie Okonkwo died in the United States of America in June. He was 63 years old.
The late chairman of Clemco group of companies, represented Anambra Central Senatorial district in Anambra State from 2007 to 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. His son, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, is the House of Representatives member representing Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituencies, Anambra State under the Labour Party.
