Veteran actor Chief Pete Edochie, Justice Chris Onyia (rtd), Ichaka master Anyidons are set to receive Celestine Ukwu memorial awards for excellence at the memorial event to celebrate the music sage who died May 7, 1977.
Also to receive the award is ace Trumpeter Instructor Douglas Ozougwu of Galaxy Int. Band.
For Edochie and Anyidons, honor comes for their using gains from their artistic talents for philanthropic activities.
The board of Celestine Ukwu Memorial Foundation noted that Pete Edochie has used gains from his artistic business to support his many colleagues and especially provide medical support for an ailing artiste amongst other support while Anyidons dared to be different and unlike many others, used his wealth to spread love to humanity especially by revitalising the music of many otherwise forgotten artistes including Queen Theresa Onuora whom he helped create social media presence for her immense talents etc.
For Justice Chris Onyia (Rtd), his judicial exploits was noted for fairness and uprightness.
Others named for the yearly award as special highlights of the Celestine Ukwu Memorial Symposium are talented Trumpeter, Instructor Douglas Ozougwu whose Galaxy band is known for delivering a tribute song for Celestine Ukwu.
Spokesperson for Celestine Ukwu Memorial Foundation disclosed that ” while the foundation is geered towards promotion of the musical and philosophical legacies of the late highlife musician, it also honors men and women who engage themselves with humanity in many ways than one.
Celestine Ukwu memorial award is part of the yearly Celestine Ukwu Memorial Symposium themed When music meets philosophy billed for Amedeo Events center Enugu, Tuesday May 6, 2025.
Keynote lecture at 2025 event is to be delivered by Emeritus Professor T. Uzodinma Nwala.
