The United States has commended Nigeria for its renewed push to fast-track terrorism trials, describing the conviction of 386 militants as a decisive step toward justice and accountability.
In a statement, Massad Boulus, Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump for Arab and African Affairs, said the convictions—coming after years of judicial delays—underscore Nigeria’s determination to confront extremism through lawful means.
He noted that the United States welcomes the Nigerian government’s strong commitment to expediting terrorism-related cases, stressing that timely and transparent legal processes are vital in countering extremism and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
Boulus further emphasised that adherence to the rule of law remains critical to Nigeria’s safety, stability, and long-term security, adding that the US stands ready to support ongoing efforts to enhance judicial efficiency and fairness.
The mass convictions represent a significant milestone in Nigeria’s counterterrorism campaign, particularly in the North-East, where insurgent groups have posed a persistent threat to national security.
