IVORY COAST BECOMES FIRST AFRICAN TEAM TO WIN AT THE 2026 WORLD CUP, BEAT ECUADOR 1-0

Ivory Coast became the first African team to record a win when they beat Ecuador 1-0 in their group game in Philadelphia, United States of America.

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo scored a stunning 90th-minute winner and ended a 19-game unbeaten run stretching for almost two years for Ecuador.

Before the victory, other African teams had struggled in their first games with South Africa succumbing 2-0 to Mexico in the opening game of the tournament. Sweden had also pummeled Tunisia 5-1 in their first Group F match.

Morocco showed great prospects in their opening group match, holding Brazil to a 1-1 draw.

Another African representative, Cape Verde will battle Spain today in their Group H fixture.
