APC UPLOADS 2027 GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES TO INEC PORTAL, RESOLVES PRIMARY DISPUTES

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has uploaded the names of nearly all its governorship candidates for the 2027 general election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) election portal after resolving disputes arising from contentious primary elections in several states. Party sources said all issues surrounding the governorship primaries have now been settled, paving the way for the submission of candidates ahead of the official deadline.

According to party sources, all but one of the APC’s governorship candidates have been successfully uploaded to the INEC portal. The party also confirmed that the names of 12 first-time governorship flag-bearers and their running mates have been processed on its internal portal, marking a significant milestone in preparations for the 2027 elections.

Among the candidates uploaded are Obafemi Hamzat (Lagos), Solomon Adeola (Ogun), Kingsley Chinda (Rivers), Eric Opah (Abia), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi), Mustapha Gubio (Borno), Jamilu Gwamna (Gombe), Ahmed Wadada (Nasarawa), and Baba Wali (popularly known as BMW) for Yobe State. Other candidates include Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Abba Yusuf (Kano), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Umar Bago (Niger), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto).

The development follows weeks of consultations and reconciliation efforts by the APC leadership to address disagreements that emerged from governorship primaries in some states. Party officials expressed confidence that the resolution of the disputes would strengthen the APC’s preparations for the forthcoming governorship elections.

In addition to the governorship candidates, party sources disclosed that about 60 percent of the APC’s candidates for the various State Houses of Assembly have also been uploaded to the INEC portal. Elections into the Houses of Assembly will be conducted across all 36 states alongside the governorship elections.

Political parties have until August 8 to complete the upload of the names of their governorship and House of Assembly candidates to the INEC portal. The APC is expected to finalize the submission of the remaining outstanding candidate before the deadline as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.
