Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media and WhatsApp message claiming that the bank has shut down, assuring customers, partners and stakeholders that it remains financially strong and fully operational. The bank said the message, which impersonates its official social media handle, is fake and should be disregarded.

In a statement issued by its management, the bank reaffirmed that all its subsidiaries and services are functioning normally without interruption. It stressed that its operations continue seamlessly and reiterated its commitment to delivering banking services to customers with the highest standards of excellence.
Access Bank also disclosed that it is working closely with relevant regulatory agencies and law enforcement authorities to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the false information. According to the bank, appropriate legal action will be taken against those behind the misinformation in line with applicable laws and regulations.
The financial institution reminded members of the public that the creation, publication and dissemination of false information capable of causing public panic, damaging reputations or undermining confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The bank urged customers and the general public not to share or forward the fake message but to rely solely on information released through its official and verified communication channels. Access Bank also expressed appreciation to its customers, partners and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence in the institution.
