MUSIC TECH NIGERIA LAUNCHES IN LAGOS, SETS NEW COURSE FOR INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION IN AFRICA’S MUSIC INDUSTRY

Lagos hosted the launch of Music Tech Nigeria on Friday, October 3, 2025, a groundbreaking platform dedicated to bridging the gap between music, innovation, and technology, driving sustainable growth across Nigeria’s creative economy.

The event, held at The Colossus Hotel, Ikeja, brought together creators, policymakers, innovators, and academics to explore how technology can reshape creativity, strengthen rights management, and open new opportunities for artists and entrepreneurs.

Delivering the keynote, Ashley Immanuel (COO, Semicolon Africa) highlighted that “technology can democratize access to learning, production, distribution, and financing” — calling on Nigeria’s creative and tech sectors to innovate around challenges like IP protection and fair compensation for creators.

Yvan Boudillet, Co-founder of Music Tech Europe, described the launch as “a deeply meaningful milestone for the global music-tech community,” urging for innovation that serves artists, businesses, and society rather than disruption.

Demilade Olaosun, CEO of Lohli Africa, Music Tech Nigeria’s partner in his presentation emphasized the need for homegrown solutions that reflect Nigeria’s music culture and consumption habits.

The launch also featured panels moderated by IP lawyers and creative entrepreneurs, Foza Fawehinmi and Olumide Mustapha. The panels had creative and tech leading voices, exploring the themes Music + Technology: Positioning Nigeria in the Global Innovation Map and Innovation Meets Industry: Building Sustainable Structures for Music-Tech in Nigeria and how Nigeria can position itself on the global music innovation map.

Dignitaries and stakeholders in attendance included Obi Asika (DG, NCAC), Dr. John Asein (DG, NCC), Prof. Bankole Sodipo, Edi Lawani, Efe Omorogbe, Godwin Tom, Oritz Wiliki, Mahmood Ali-Balogun, Laolu Akins, Mayo Ayilaran, Bizzle Osikoya, Gospel Singer Chidinma, Dr. Ezekiel ThankGod (EeZee Conceptz), Michael John (Principal Partner, Avaara Partners) and a vibrant community of young developers, startups, and creative entrepreneurs.

Co-founders Michael Odiong and Dr. Chinedu Chukwuji expressed deep gratitude to partners, speakers, and participants, describing the event as “the beginning of a new chapter for the music-tech community in Nigeria.”
